Seriously old school

John Malmo's Two-Minute Business Pearls continue to annoy the crap out of me. They come on 91.1 WKNO around the 7:30 AM break. I'm sure it all sounds great when accompanied by the soundtrack of Leave It To Beaver streaming from an RCA Flip Top. But sandwiched between Morning Edition segments about a historic African American presidential nominee and ground breaking autism research it sounds more like the self appreciative ramblings of an industry veteran trying desperately to hang on to his relevancy.

Sure, I'm a snotty know-it-all forty-something. But I appreciate old skool as at forty it's who you are in today's demographic. However, Malmo's pearls come off more as parables in an industry that is far less than biblical. It's old rule. I don't know Mr. Malmo personally, but I hope he's laughing at himself a little bit instead of taking himself as seriously as he sounds. I'm guessing he has a business pearl sanctioning the infomercial, which is all his little marketing self-help narrations are for his book. Sell sell sell.

Then again, the marketing world in Memphis hasn't changed at all since I moved away fifteen years ago. Probably also not that much different than fifty years ago. That's the pace around here...Memphis style, seriously old school.
